After breaking my pull shower switch (40A), i replaced it with a new one.

Just did a few checks before i switched braker back on and:

continuity test between phase and neutral at the switch (when open) did not read open circuit.

dismantled switch again and disconnected extractor fan, which comes on when shower switch on.
Checked continuity across fan's ph and neu and again got continuity.

fixed shower switch together again without fan.
Readings: Open circuit between phase-neutral, phase-earth, neutral-earth.

Bingo ?

Fan taped up and tucked away in void.

Any comments? get new fan? Forget fan? Any reason why it should have a continuity between phase and neutral ?

Do you have an extractor fan connected directly to a 40A shower circuit?

This could be the coils of the motor in the fan. Could be quite low resistance ( measured with DC from the meter ) but high impedance to AC at mains frequency.

BUT definately NOT suitable for direct connection to 40 amp fuse circuit.

Anybody care to find ban's ingenious extractor fan arrangement?

double 22, they are trying to say that to have afan connected to the shower supply is dangerous, if your fan goes wrong it is only protected by your 40A shower fuse, the fan will fry and burn before the fuse goes.

see the wiki to see how it should be done

Oh, alright, then. If you insist!
