Hi everyone.

I have a concrete slab floor in house, some wooden batons with inch of rigid insulation foam and then a DPM/vapour membrane ontop of it all and then tounge and groove floorboards resting ontop (floating)

I need to replace a few meters of the DPM as it’s ripped from floor board replacement but I’m seeing some people online saying use DPM and others saying Vapor membrane to stop condensation, I’m getting abit confused between the both and what I should use, any suggestions?
Thanks :)

If you mean a vapour barrier then in terms of what they achieve they are the same ie they prevent any moisture from passing through them. But a DPM is quite thick and difficult to tear so suitable for using in a floor situation where they may have concrete heaped upon them and big fat builders walk about on them whereas a vapour barrier is typically very thin and would be used in a wall or ceiling where there are no such pressures are likely to be exerted upon them.

Technically your cavity created by the battens should be vented. Does the slab not have a DPM under it already?
