Hi, does anyone have any tips on where to put the drain cock for a central heating system in an upper flat? I can put it at the 'lowest point' but the hose would need to rise up in order to drain it into the sink (or wc or whatever) I could put a pipe through to the outside but I don't suppose draining to the outside is allowed or a good idea with all the inhibitor and black stuff in heating pipes.

What's the usual way to do this?

Thanks

Will it drain though, if the hose rises up above the level of the pipes/rads?

If you're talking about hanging a full length hose from the lowest point of a radiator through a window out into a drain outside, then yes - by syphonage. You would have to suck the water partially down the hose to get it started though.

It won't work if your sink is above the radiator. How could it

That's what I thought. It has to drain to a lower point so i guess my only options are either a hose to the friendly neighbour's flat downstairs to an outside drain.

What's wrong with an outside drain cock, all they need to do is attach length of hose to reach the ground when they want to drain down. Brilliant idea, as long as no idiot can reach it to drain it by malice and it's insulated.

Depends on height I suppose, plus the end would need to be insulated too.
