Drain off under floor was used 2 weeks ago to drain off central heating system. Tried to use again but when drain off opened, nothing appears to happen.
There's more than one type of drain off valve, but most have a rubber washer, at the end of the square headed brass plug that you turn to open the valve. What commonly happens is that the rubber sticks in place, so even though you've undone the plug, no water comes out. If you remove the plug, you should be able to pick the washer out with a small screwdriver or similar, resulting in a mighty flood!
A better long term approach is to cutt off the drain valve and replace it with an inline stopvalve with a threaded end (like a washing machine valve or garden tap). This allows a faster drain down (good) and easier connection to a hose.
Thanks. For your information I opened the drain off fully and then ran the heating at the highest temperature possible. Suddenly there was a glug and a dollop of sludge seemed to be released. Thanks for your assistance.
