what do you need to know?

i agree libby, for some bizarre reason the forum administrators foolishly think that plumbers install drains.

ridiculous i know. a plumber does not even know what a shovel is, let alone what it is used for.

i can not remember ever seeing a plumber install underground drains.

EVER.

hey i saw an electrician doing some digging this week, even got his hands dirty.....but a plumber...nah never happen

Nothing really, Iv'e trawled the net and cannot find a drainage forum, in britain, i'm a member of an american forum but, we tend to speak a different lingo, they don't know what a grid is.

It's just that iv'e started a drain cleaning buisness, and would like to speak to others in the know, like you sparky's, plumbers etc.

If you come across a site, please pass it on to me. thanks.

Well considering many plumbers are above sewer cleaning in their mind they are higher up on the food chain I think drain cleaning should have its own forum.

In 1999 I bought my first color video inspection camera with locator and prior to that I had invested several thousand dollars in water jetting equipment electric and gas operated.

In the early 80's I realized there is a gold mine in sewer and drain cleaning and I must say having equipment pay for itself after being used on 8 jobs or less is a real money maker.

One of my first jetters I paid slightly over $2,000 for and it paid for itself the very first day I used it and I still have it 20+ years of amazing service.

Plumbing does not come close to the profit margin of maintaining a drainage system compared to installations.

I just bought another super duty Ford 350 with 138 WB for strictly sewer and drain and storm water drain cleaning with a built in Jetter and today with specialization a decent drain cleaner can net over $2,000 a day
(7 hours)

Color (colour) sewer inspection for example one can charge $500 per half hour as the cameras are quite expensive just like an doctor placing a scope down your throat same principle just a smaller scale so we can charge for this highly technical aspect of plumbing considering wear and tear of the camera and locator.

Here are two questions one should think about

Which is better more GPM or more PSI when doing sewer lines and storm lines and WHY?

Actually no one should know more about maintaining a drainage system then the masters who install them one would think But in reality many plumbers install the piping and never look back.

With codes dealing with FOG there is a lot more to the drain cleaning profession then just running a wire down a pipe.

There is a whole new industry just catching up to drains maintainability and getting in now is still good as the market is still growing until the franchises start invading and then quality and prices drop like a lead balloon

Sylvan Tieger, nice to know some one is happy, but i for one have not got a clue what the pictues apertain too and wht is FOG.

You seem to oftern forget. this is a UK based forum, and we dont know exactly what you mean.

how about you edit your posts with pictures and point out what to you is obvious

unless of course its just me.

FOG = Fats , Oil, Grease which makes it very difficult for water treatment plants to handle.

FOG was not a major problem years ago but because of fast food places it is a real money maker for those who treat it such as maintaining grease traps

<< Gasoline (Petrol) fired water jetter 3,000 PSI 10 GPM

<<< Drains that need to be cleared on a ledge

<<< Drain replaced 18 stories up
