I'm replacing a Back-boiler system with a combi system. How do I drain the back boiler so I can remove the radiators and old pipes without worrying about any leaks (some of the rad valves are damaged so I can't turn them off). On a combi I think you have a drainage pipe but where should that be on a backboiler system?

I have a gas fire on my chimney breast with an access panel to the side of it but with the Gas and water supply going through the chimney but I can't see any drainage pipes - where would it normally be? behind the fire?.

Concerning...... removing a BBU and asking these sort of questions....not really DIY.

I've got a gas engineer coming in to switch everything off. then its just a case of ripping it all out.

I'm just trying to get my head around it first.

As long as the gas and electric is all disconnected and the system is drained it should be fine..... :)
