Dremel clone

My Dremel 4000 had finally died.

It was never that good and when I opened it up I saw why. The mechanism for switching on and off was completely "Heath Robinson". The machine was over-complicated ant fussy - no wonder it broke.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a clone that will fit the same tools but is more reliable/better constructed/cheaper?

Better constructed - look at corded or 18 volt die grinders from Bosch and Makita which will take a 3.2mm (1/8in) collet. A lot more robust, but a lot more expensive. Will use the same tooling, but won't work with some of the accessories

I've just discovered a German tool maker called Proxxon - I bought a cute little table saw off of fleabay - it's great! Afterwards, I wondered what else they make and they do a really nice looking Dremel-a-like - check out this video on YouTube
