My problem is that having used wood glue on two pieces of pine, the glue has left a mark and the clear varnish I've used over it does not cover it.
Is the only solution to use a darker varnish (don't really want to!)?
Have tried sanding and white spirit, but still the smears remain! Please help!

I think your too late, you should wipe off immediately whilst its still wet.

heeeellllooo and welcome maureendeacon :D :D :D :D

as bathjobby say you need to remove the glue whilst wet

you now need to remove it with sanding and hopfuly it wont have penitrated more than 1mm

untill you remove it you will have an opaque finnish

But you probably used PVA glue. A real pain generator, very difficult to sand.
