Hi All

Hope you’re all well. I have to drill holes for these screws/wall plugs. There is no indication on either re drill bit gauge so wondering if anyone could advise. Photos show parts and relative size to coaster.

Many thanks.
(This is definitely my Achilles H)

Unusual that there’s no guide, but it will likely be 6mm.....try drilling a practice hole and see if the plastic piece inserts snugly.

Hi

Match screw or drill? (Said this was my Achilles Heel)

Chuck away that wallplug and use a proper one.
Failing that, measure it with a caliper.
No caliper?
Use your fingers to feel the closest size masonry bit to the wallplug.
No masonry bit?
Just hammer a nail in the wall.

Many thanks. I have a plethora of wall plugs. I find selecting the right drill bit for those equally confusing.

Just put a masonry drill bit in front and behind the wall plug and see if the widths of both match if not try another one until you do!

Don't forget to check the width at the tip of the masonry drill bit only not the shank

Just get coloured wall plugs and put the same colour tape around the corresponding drill bit , makes it easy to select the right one you need!

Are you intending to drill the coaster - or am I missing something?
That will take much more care than drilling the wall!
John :)

Especially if he drills through the coaster , smashes the glass on the coffee table and messes up the half finished jigsaw , his missus would be mad.......
