Hi all.

I have ceiling rafters for my garage roof and I'm wanting to run pipework for some taps from one side to the other.

I'm thinking of drilling these rafters and running the pipework within. Only reason being, in the future I may want to insulate the roof and put boarding up.

Is it safe to do it so close to the edge? Don't want to cause any weakness. If it's an issue, I'll just do it on the wall itself.

It's a yes no answer.
I was told no on mine however, I could drill small holes for electric cables. I thought what? Which is it.

Close to the wall edge and close to the flooring I think you will be fine. No flex there.
Be similar to knotching out

They're only 15mm pipes I'd be running through. Suprised it's a 0.25x span limit.

I'll have to measure their length and see where that puts me.

Unfortunately it's not really about the size of hole - more so what the holes do to the integrity and load bearing capacity of the beam - these are the structural standards applied to all.

Fit the pipes underneath.
If you want to insulate and board in the future, just batten the ceiling down 25mm.
