Drilling Joists

Does anybody use 'fostener' drill bits ? I drill @40mm diameter holes through joists, and usually use s.d.s augre bits, {as i find 'flat' bits have limited use}. Has anybody here used these fostener bits ? Thank you.

True Forstner bits are designed to drill flat=-borromed holes, but they have a tendency to wander a wee bit. I think you might find them a bit slow cutting and they are a bit of a pain to sharpen. Do you perhaps mean one of those 3D bits?

I use forstner bits sometimes, to produce large clean holes.
Probably not the best for drilling through a joist though.
