Hi everyone,

I've just realised that my boiler is dripping water from a pipe that leads outside (nothing too heavy but annoying none the less).

Through a little bit of research I think that it is a faulty pressure relief valve.

Is this an easy fix? Could I do it myself?

The leak is coming from the pipe on the far left.

thank you in advance.

what does the boiler's pressure gauge read (1) cold (2) hot?

How often do you top it up?

How do you turn off the filling valve?

You don't mean it's dripping from the plastic pipe, do you?

the boiler pressure now reads 1.2 when cold rising to around 1.4 when hot. it was on 3 for a while as i didn't realise it would be a problem.

since reducing it to 1.2 the dripping isn't as heavy but is still filling half a sandwich bag that i have attached to the pipe outside per day.

its not dripping from the plastic pipe. it is dripping from the end of the copper pipe that leads outside from the first brass elbow? on the far left of the boiler.

should i reduce the boiler pressure further or is that not safe?

Basically u topped the pressure up too high to 3bar? Then the PRV has discharged and the nut from the PRV isn't tight enough?
Get an rgi to replace PRV will stop the water outside, once the PRV has discharged once they tend to always leak as the valve won't seat correctly because of any dirt sat on the valve seat.

If you are lucky and don't over pressurise the boiler again then it MIGHT stop leaking after a week or so.

Thank you to everybody for your replies.

the leak seems to be slowing down so hopefully i have dodged a bullet. If not, i now know exactly what to do.

Thanks again
