You could just bend the brass arm down slightly (without breaking the valve! ) this would excert more pressure on the pin.

The washer may be worn or a little bit of grit has got in it, which would require you to unscrew the round brass section and take out the washer and either clean or replace. There should be instructions with pictures for this in most DIY books

cheers terry, and do you know what the purpose of the white pipe is?

When you say the White pipe, do you mean the overflow or the little White bit on top of the valve?

The overflow is to carry away water when you the tank over fills

The White bit on top of your valve is to meet regulations on a part two valve, a part one would fill from the underside of the valve

If you pulled that off the water when filling would spray upwards, this elbow directs it down into the tank.

Bending the arm will cure your problem for the short term. As soon as water is drawn off the water will fill to the new (lower level) and the drips will return. For £6-7 fit a new ball valve assy complete, or as suggested dismantle and clean it.
