Hi,

We had a loft extension built which included 2 new radiators. All seemed fine for a few weeks but then we noticed a dripping sound from within one of the stud walls in the loft. After a few days we worked out that the dripping sound only happened when the central heating is used. It is most noticeable after the heating is off, and it lasts for about 5 minutes and then stops. It is a fairly consistent drip, about once every 3 seconds. The pipes (plastic) from the loft bedroom radiator pass along that wall, so I assumed that there was a leak somewhere. Last night the central heating had been on on for a couple of hours and the radiator was hot, then it started to get cool whilst the heating was still on, and shortly after that the heating went off and the dripping could be heard. Add to that, the fact that I've had to increase the water pressure in the boiler twice in the last 6 weeks (dropped from 1.5 bar to 0.5), and that I have to bleed the other radiator in the loft (bathroom) every couple of days due to a build up of air in it. I haven't had to increase the water pressure in the boiler for a long time, so twice in 6 weeks is definitely not usual. The same goes for bleeding the radiator.
So I called the builder and asked him to bring the plumber back to have a look, but they missed the day I was in and could only come when another family member was there.
It wasn't possible to demonstrate the dripping, the heating has to have been on for a while, but it was explained to them. The plumber said he doesn't think it's a leak, just the pipes that are making the dripping sound :(. Is this possible? It doesn't sound right to me. To fix it the will have to break into a wall, fix the leak, and then make good the wall again. This will cost them time and money away from their other jobs, so I think they're avoiding it.
The boiler is an Ariston Microgenus, but I can't remember the exact model at the moment.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated :) .
