Hi, I gotta Attersall Coronation 1902 tap which I like a lot but it has developed a drip. I habe changed thevwashers twice. The second time, I found the cold (rubber) washer that i had fitted had been destroyed. Do I need a specialist, more hardwearing washer for this tap?

Make sure the washer seating is free from grit etc, and use exact size manufacturers replacement otherwise they can twist.

You don't really get such a thing. Have you checked the seats, they may need ground.

Try servicing the valve body too, take it apart, clean and re silicone grease. Just note how it comes apart. usually the problem with taps eating the washers is being too heavy handed with the tap, that's usually because the valve becomes stiffer over time.

Is there someone in the house who turns the taps off with great force?

I have observed this habit in some older people who have got used to worn-out taps.

My experience of that type of tap, sometimes suggests user error. Someone spots the sudden flow of water from the spout, long after it has been used, and go to crank the tap closed, even tighter. What causes it, is cold water left in the spout, warming up, and overflowing the spout. If it stops, just leave it alone.
