Hi all,

Just a quick question, I currently have a single concrete driveway which i'm looking to break out and build a double / triple gravel drive with block pavers for edging.... all i'd like to know is, will the concrete i break out be suitable to use a sub base for my new drive? or will the hardcore be to big? I was thinking about trying to get the concrete down to say golf ball size to use it?

Any advise much appreciated

It could do, if broken down small enough, ideally your sub-base should be about 75-100mm deep.
When compacted from loose you should lose about 20mm of the height.

As PBD has stated, the size make up of the hard core should not exceed the depth you intend putting down by at least half the thickness.

So if you intend laying the hard core 100mm thick then the granular size (ideally) should be no more than 50mm.
