Driveway Weeds

Hello

So it's that time of year and the weeds are fighting to try to take over my driveway. I have no idea of the guys who installed my driveway used any kind of weed membrane or if that would have even helped.

My next door had his driveway done recently and his looks alot better than mine. At the time he got them to seal it? is that something I could do to mine?

I need something to do this weekend ..

what sort of driveway?

if its block / pavers the problem is usually weed seeds rather than anything coming up from below

treatment with weedkiller is the answer

Mine has a nice turned wooden handle I made myself. I use this tool for weed therapy.

Thanks, it is also where grass and weeds grow at the side of my driveway. I live in a mid-terraced house with fences either side of my blocked direway. Both tend to attract grass and weeds wondered if I could put some kind of membrane down with some stones?

As Notch suggested is best, yes any lose gravel or shallow areas which allow seeds to settle and germinate a membrane will help then it's an easy rake job to dislodge and DESTROY, vaporise and send into outer space.
Otherwise a recommended long lasting weedkiller for driveways which normally destroys everything, depending on area apply with a pressurised weed container and if you are wear a decent mask, that aerosol from weed spray ( vapour just like we don't think covid19 is doing) can get into your airways.

I like your positive thought but no. They're not wild flowers either, some make you wet the bed too.

It is a myth that weeds grow through stuff. More likely that the weeds have grown into rather than through. Block paving is like a Garden of Eden to plant life. Those seeds just love the crack.....

Pathclear. As well as killing the weeds it leaves a film on the surface that prevents weed germination for some months.

If you rake or dig, or pull up weeds, you disturb the surface and break the film.

It is branded as "weedol pathclear" but don't use any of the other weedol products for this job.

some people use it among roses or in flowerbeds, between the plants. Works fine as long as you don't splash it on green parts of plants you want to keep. It does not poison them through the roots.

Block paving is ghastly! Your neighbour's new block paving looks good, but that won't last. He will be forever maintaining it, as will you yours. It is ugly stuff - pick it all up , skip it and let the grass grow back. If you must have any form of paving, lay it with big gaps in between each slab and put low-growing grasses in the gaps.
