I’ve had 2 totally different opinions on my driveway. It’s on a slope.

One said to build a wall and a path with it.
This guy is a general builder. He also looked at the driveway next door which has a garden pipe in the gulley emptying on a patch of mud near the house wall. He said that was dangerous for foundations and had to really br put in the drain on my property. He said the slope was too much to not build a wall. This was quite a high quote as it had all the extra work.

The second guy is a driveway specialist and said he can pave it down the slope no issues. I have a drain going into ground from guttering, he said that is a soak away so what they did next door isn’t a big issue, not to worry. He said he’d be able to drain my driveway into that, and a steel gulley. This is right by my bay window

Is draining here a bad idea? To be fair the water from the garden has been draining here already for 85 years.

Anyone comment on the regs on this and who’s likely to be right?

Thanks

Tne planning rules require the run off to be captured within your property e.g a soak-away. The idea is
to prevent flooding when main sewers and drains are already over capacity. You might be able to design a side fall so it drains on the part of the front garden that is not being paved.

This link provides a practical explanation:

So the soak away is right by the foundations and the first guy said that’s not on. But, the garden is on a slope, the water runs there anyway.
