Will somebody tell those cretins who decide to drive with two wheels in the gutter when going over a speed hump, that they are actually putting more stress on their suspension, than if they drove over same with both wheels.
Please please will some mechanic confirm that this is correct and that they are making a fortune on repairs of this nature
Also tell the thickos that there is every chance that one day they will probably wallop some poor pedestrian with their wing mirrors.

Speed bumps are so annoying! They really slow you down.

:D

Not round our way. About 6 years ago the council installed speed bumps on a road. People, emergency services and bus companies complained and 4 months later, it cost the council more money to remove them ,than it had to install them in the first place. This was on a road with 10ft wide grass verges (before the railings protecting pedestrians on the pavement) ;) ;)

And the ones they didn't remove they were forced to plane the tops off as they'd set them too high

All speed bumps should be removed, and the material used should be utilised in filling in the numerous pot holes we have to endure.
They are an obstruction to the Queens highway, better enforcement of speed limits, should be the way.

Ive a company car so i really dont care (no repair bills for me!) and i find launching yourself of a bump can be quite fun

Why do you think this is the case?

Perhaps the council look upon pot holes as just another traffic calming device.

Think that's the plan in this neck of the woods, where the council spends a fortune 'traffic calming' some roads and others falling apart.

I'm not sure how correct anobium's original premise is not being an engineer but I did read in a Truck magazine about the effect on lorries. Evidently the pressure excerted on the road effectively triples coming off a roadhump with steel suspension. Thus a common 7 tonne front axle will actually excert something like 21 tonnes of pressure .
On another side a workmate said years ago that hitting a speed hump at 60mph caused no bouncing of the vehical body and then promptly showed us by speeding up to a hump. To be fair he was correct in that the body of the van stayed where it was but the suspension gave a loud bang which we felt couldn't be healthly.
All in all I think I prefer speed cameras.

Sometimes i do that if it dosent inconvenience others.Speed is needed to be considered as well.
Nowadays, i even go on the other side of the road if it's clear, and in better condition.

When it comes to those mini-humps that dont span the full width of the road I think I'll carry on driving around them rather than putting a wheel either side and walloping my car's sump, thanks.

My VW isn't particularly low slung (standard ride height though it is the GTI model so its a little lower), but with a couple of mates in the car it's low enough to hit the sump. VW dealers used to have piles of damaged sumps in their yards, not to mention sh*gged engines and turbos.

Speed bumps are a costly menace.

The only place speed bumps belong is in car parks.

And that's only to stop people racing around them at night when they are empty.

TBH I don't really know or in fact care, I just hope it does.
I'm more concerned with the danger to pedestrians as a result of the wing mirrors encroaching onto the pavement area.
Its bad enough with cars but the white van vehicles wing mirrors are even more dangerous.

Well done you for being a champion for the pedestrian cause.

Seriously....why waste your time posting this nonsense in the first place?
