Drywall joins

Just put fresh plasterboard up in my garage/mancave,

Don’t want the added cost of plastering it or even drywalling all the joints,

My thoughts were too tape the joins then paint it but I can’t find an adhesive joint tape, and I think masking tape will lift or give a different colour finish

Any recommendations before I just caulk it and paint it

Is this tapered edge plasterboard?

I guess that you could just caulk it but you may want to apply a coat of emulsion first to reduce the suction. The caulk will shrink back though.

No it’s square edge board,

I figured seeing tape wouldn’t be as bad as seeing the gaps but I can’t find any kind of paintable tape other than joint tape which isn’t sticky

I also was going to get acrylic caulk so it “doesn’t shrink”

Acrylic caulk does shrink.

If you want one that can be overpainted and doesn't shrink you need to look at MS polymers (eg CT1, Sikaflex, etc). They are however more expensive and very difficult to taper out. They are as flexible as silicones.

Gaffer tape will stick, particularly when applied over the first coat of emulsion. The paint on the tape won't pass the fingernail scratch test (you can buy white gaffer tape though).

The best way of covering plasterboard joins when filling is not an option is to fit wooden battens over the joins. Be sure to use a spirit level.

May not be the effect you originally expected, but easier than filling and the joins won't crack.

use the proper materials to "drywall" the joins as you put it.
tapin is not just for decorative its for sealin against fire an smoke.

no dont use wallpaper paste. or any other weird material . theyl give you problems later on.

Totaly agree theres only one way to do a job but op looks like they want to cut corners?
Having said that We have moved into a 4 bed property where in 1974 all stud walls and ceiling joints were done with pasted tape then wallpapered or just painted . Ive since redone it all except for a cloak room so just snapped one of the joints.
While it doesn't look that pretty, the joint tape does take some getting off.

It was my parents house and it was 44yrs ago
