Hi Folks,
I had a new Worcester boiler fitted by British Gas a couple of years ago and, as money was tight, I opted for a simple 'mechanical' timer (MT10) fitted in the boiler with a separate wired thermostat in the hall.
The boiler works fine but the ECO setting is annoying me in that it's either on or off - ie not timed.
I was talking to the engineer during the boiler's annual service and he said that the DT20 timer allowed for timing of both CH and water, in effect allowing ECO to be turned ON at night but OFF during the day.
He wasn't 100% certain whether the DT20 can be used with my existing wired thermostat (which I prefer). He looked at the Gritish Gas price list and it was around £145 +VAT. Now, I've seen them advertised (new) on the internet for around £50 including VAT.
So, two questions really. I was time served electrician before I retired so I think actually fitting a DT20 would be simple enough.... but what do the regulations say about working on this "non-gas" part of a boiler. And second, would the DT20 in fact work with the existing wired thermostat? (I can only find a user-guide for the DT20 not an installation/wiring guide).
Thanks,
John.
