Hi. Is this anything to be concerned about? Does it "mean" anything? As far as I could see there was one old style light switch in an understairs cupboard. The consumer unit and this cupboard/stairwell in the centre of the property are separated by a blocked up former chimney breast.

Concerned about potential rewiring. This is in a mid terraced house, construction around 1900s-1920s. Wondering what reasons there could be for all new wiring but one element being left?

Everything else is good about the property.

Anything anyone can tell me about this will be helpful. It is a property I want to buy but want to have some knowledge in my head first.

Thank you!

Photo of consumer unit with flap open so we can clearly see what is inside and read what is printed on the devices will help. Why is there an old rewireable fuse sitting on top of it? Is there a(nother) fusebox somewhere?

Is it the loose re-wireable carrier onto of that board at the base of the picture, near the meter replacement card that you are concerned about?

It may be the coiled cable, to the lower left of the picture, that isn't connected to the CU?
But it isn't clear to me what the OP is concerned about.

I have no idea why there is an old rewireable fuse on top or if there is another box somewhere.

I have no idea about this stuff. I want to know if it looks standard. The concern was around the property being partially rewired and possibly having costly work to do.

Is that standard? I was concerned about there being one old style switch and there possibly being a partial rewiring job to consider

Actually, there is a ground floor extension housing the kitchen and bathroom. In the bathroom section there is a thermostat and a control panel for under tile heating serving the bathroom. Does that clarify matters at all?

I just remembered that is separate so maybe explains it. Sorry, I am clueless, just trying to get an idea and not potentially have expensive work to pay for going forward.

With the absolute best will in the world, it is almost impossible for us to give you the answers you seek here on the forum.

You would need, at the very least, to provide a lot more photos from across the building showing general condition of cabling and wiring accessories (with caution, don't take photos of anything you aren't comfortable touching or unscrewing etc).

It sounds like you need to get an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) conducted by a qualified electrician. Try to find a local electrician who comes with words of recommendation from friends, family or neighbours. The outcome of the EICR will give you the answers you are looking for.

By that one element left, do you mean the black thing on the left?

If so, then that is the main supply fuse into the house and the property of the Distributors which you and we cannot alter.

I think that folk here are probably still struggling a bit to fully understand what you aree concerned about.

On the face of it, there is nothing in the one photo you've posted which gives rise to any significant concern

Kind Regards, John
