This will most likely be a stupid question, how does this fitting work? Do I literally just thread it on my pipe?

What kind of connection is this called?

This is what I bought. I have the t piece. It’s the connections to the feed and return pipework I’m confused with. Thanks

The pipework just goes into the bottom of the valve, once tightened up the spilt washer closes
