Hi all,

I’m adding a new porch to my house and also renovating the kitchen. I’d like to add ducting for my cooker hood, but there’s a challenge.

The roof of the new porch will block the vent if I use the shortest path between the cooker hood and the external wall. Please see images attached.

Relocating the cooker to the opposite side of the kitchen isn’t an option because a boiler is already installed there. Are there any alternative ways to vent the cooker hood externally?

I was considering the possibility of running the ducting through the kitchen ceiling and venting it out above the roofline. However, I'm uncertain about the complexity of the job and whether kitchen odors might seep into the upstairs area, as there's a bedroom located directly above the kitchen.

Which way do the ceiling joists run? Could you run a duct from the hood, up to the ceiling, then in the ceiling across the kitchen right to left?
