Does anyone know an alternative to the Eaglerise Transformer model :SET110LV (35-110W). My light fitting has two of these inside and I replaced one within 6 months and now another has "burnt out" a few months later. Or, do I just accept that transformers don't last long anyway?

What's the load on the tranny?

How close is the tranny to the fitting(s)?

Is it covered in loft insulation?

Sorry to be thick but what's "the load"?
What I do know is this ceiling light has two trannys stuck inside the body of the light with sticky pads and each tranny runs 4 x 12v 20w halogen bulbs. No loft insulation issues and the bulbs were supplied by the light shop where I bought the light.
Help much appreciated as I am no electrician.

I've taken a picture of the transformer and hopefully you can see it here. I've seen this transformer for sale at this website http://www.creativehomelighting.co.uk/ but I really want an alternative that will last beyond a couple of months. Replacing both transformers every year makes it a very expensive light to run. Will the round one do the job do you think?

Probably no point. Sorry, the other posts about Eaglerise were for round ones.

It looks like a regular 105VA 12v transformer. Like this one clickme

Don't know if it fits in your light but the spec should be OK for you.

Look at the dimensions for a 105 va osram halotronic mouse to see if it would fit.
One of the best selling trans in the world and reliable.

I replaced two round ones for rectangular ones from TLC

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LTYT105.html

Fitted them in the loft space (fastened to trusses away from the insulation) rather than in the light casing and extended the wires.

One been in 18months now - 3 times as long as the Eaglerise. Have (actually daughter has) two more Eaglerise transformers and one is in a wall light so must be wired in the case and needs to be round - it has not failed yet.

I would not replace with more Eaglerise units - they are rubbish.
