Earthing ceiling pendant

Replacing a ceiling lampshade (plastic bulb fitting) with a new one (metal bulb fitting). I thought this would be a five minute job, but the old one has only two wires (live/neutral) and the new one has three; there appears to be no earth wire in the ceiling fitting (old house). (Last year an electrician checked out the house and reported everything okay.)
Is there a simple way to do this? I have only changed wall sockets before, but all went okay!

How old is the wiring in your house?

This is a common problem, see the other posts on this forum. The only real long term answer, sadly, is to rewire the lighting circuit with an earth.
