Hi just a quick question.
In wiring books it doesn't mention a flying earth too the back box in a cooker switch.
I am just thinking why not.
Are they presuming it is a plastic face plate and plastic back box.
On one with a metal face plate and metal back box if you put in the flying earth is this done withe the same size cable core say 6mm twin and earth and a 6mm flying earth.

Providing the back box has at least one fixed lug, then an earth link is not required.

It is however considered good practice by most electricians to install one anyway.

You would normally use the same size wire as the CPC (earth wire) for the circuit. It twin and earth wiring it is smaller than the circuit conductors.

Earthing it will of course ensure the back box is earthed if the faceplate is loosened off for tiling or decorating, so another reason for doing it.
