Ok, never had Economy 7 or cheap electric!

How do you get it, how much cheaper is it and what are the hours of play (hours that its cheaper)?
Thanks

how much cheaper is it

Not as cheap as it might appear - usually cheap at night means more expensive in the daytime.

Unless you have storage heaters or your water heating is all electric, it is not likely to be worthwhile.

E7 hours in this part of Cumbria (old NORWEB) are 22:30 -00:30 and 02:30-07:30 and change in line with GMT/BST so times stay the same all year

Its c**p then!
Is there any type of energy thats worth having these days? :(

The last time that I had Economy 7 (quite some years ago) I calculated that a fridge and freezer together were enough to make it worthwhile though only by the odd few quid a year. Similarly if you have any other 24-hour kit such as pond pumps and such.

As it happens I heat my greenhouse with electricity and since most of the heating requirements are at night Economy 7 made quite a difference.

If you have timers on your dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine, and set them so they operate during the cheaper rate, it is worthwhile.

Wow! So if you use all three appliance only at night, how long would it take to recoup the cost of three new timers and to make worthwhile the increased cost of peak rate power?

Softus, I think I now have a reason why so many people visit these forums after midnight ;) CHEAP ELECTRIC WOOHOO!!!

Don't know the answer to that. However, our appliances already have the timers built in, so no additional cost there. For us, if our usage is approx 25% or more at the night rate, we save money by being on economy 7. It's not much of a saving, but it's not worth coming off it! :) Our supplier is EDF.

Don't know the answer to that.
In that case I'm confused - how did you arrive at the conclusion that it's worthwhile for the OP to change to E7?

Softus... I should have said "it can be worthwhile" not "it is worthwhile" in my original reply to the OP.
Sorry if this confused you. I was merely offering practical advice.

OK. But why the rolling eyes?

Sorry if this confused you.
I wasn't the least bit confused. You might have been misleading with your words, but the meaning of them was abundantly clear.

I was merely offering practical advice.
So, could you summarise that practical advice?

Ok, Economy 7 really is not very economical after all. But can some suggest cheap electricity...maybe splicing into the DNO's supply before the meter...ha ha
See the new regs have a section on PV installations. If you don't mind growing your hair and wearing beads maybe thats the way to go? :)

Don't know what supplier your with but all the tariff's and prices should be on their website.

E7 is just the most popular OFF PEAK tariff.

Your supplier may have certain off peak tariff's only available to them, for example mine has a tariff called Option 14 which gives 7hrs cheap rate at night and 7hrs cheap in the day.

Try a search for E10 that seems popular at the moment.
