Simple question for adults!

Pot of 40 beans, child will eat 3 beans and the two parents will eat the remainder equally!

At what age will the child be able to calculate in their head how many beans each parent will eat?

Serious question!

Shortly after they start wondering why their parents are cutting that last bean in half.

well agile we are dying to know put us out of our misery

So far nobody has given me any answer!

These were NOT over salted and over sweetened canned beans!

They were long RUNNER BEANS picked from the plant the day before!

Rather than just suggest an age, what basis can you give for that suggestion?

Have you tested the question on any 6 y.o or 7 y.o. ???

Tony

In this country, children are expected at KS2 to demonstrate an ability that would allow them to perform that arithmetic division.

There are no hard and fast age rules for attaining this degree of mental development, but it will generally happen somewhere between 5 and 11. Some children are ready earlier, some are never ready.

Why do you ask?

Just seemed about right to me, based on where my 6 year old is at the moment, but as Softus said, some are ready earlier, some later.

Is there a right answer to this that you know, or are you collecting opinions, or is it a brainteaser, or a trick question, or what ?

Not a trick question!

Its not a question of the mathmatical skills which are quite low. Its a test of that ability to understand the problem and translate it into the required mathmatics!

Has this 6 y.o. succeeded? I would not have thought many under 10 would be able to.

If I take 4 beans out he's OK with it. That extra half is a bit more of an advanced concept at this stage.
