Hello all,
Does anyone have experiences of electric boilers, costs etc, as I have a job coming up that has no gas supply.
I was wondering if electric is an efficient alternative to oil these days, or is it still better to get an oil tank etc?
Any help please,thanks Tim

standard rate electricity costs two or three times as much as gas.

See if you can get off-peak like a 10-hour or economy-7 night rate at the property, and also how many Amps the supply is. If not it will be very expensive to run

If it is an isolated country supply there may be a large cost in getting the supply upgraded. If it is a large property you may need 3-phase. An ordinary gas boiler is usually in the 24-35kW range, which is more than you can get from an ordinary household electricity supply, even without all the other electrical loads.

Most houses have an 80A or 100A fuse, which will give up to about 17 - 23kW max load, and the supply will not have been designed to give this for sustained periods.

BTW storage heaters tend to give off most of their heat during the day, so are useful if you are retired or have babies, not so good if you are out all day as they will be running down by the time you get in.

The property is a 2 bed bungalow only to be used when guests are visiting the main house.
As there is no gas supply to the house the choice is limited

Anyone know a rough price for an oil tank big enough for this size property? as it could be an option to go oil fired

Thx
