I know this may sound stupid but my new cooker has been delivered with no electric cable. They want £70 to install it. My neighbour will connect it but I don't know what cable to get that will be suitable as I know cooker need a certain cable.

Ouch!!!!!!

All we need is the make and model? And it's a 1min solution. :)

If your neighbour is not aware what type of cable is required then I would say that in fact he CAN NOT connect it as he is not qualified nor competent. Call an electrician or pay the £70.

Jj4091 it's not him asking! It's me! I thought I would get everything ready! To crystalclear it's a beko BD533AK.

6mm2 cable for this one. It has to be hard wired, and there could well be a connection point nearby.
John :)

It may not be ALL you need, the point I was trying to make was that the person doing the installation should be the one advising you, someone qualified who can look at what is needed & will know how the job should be done properly!!

I guess it will be the traditional shielded outlet behind the old cooker, or a flying lead from a wall switch somewhere.....as you have said, if the neighbour doesn't know, then it's not the job for him!
John :)

I completely agree with you but I'm not sure I would like to "guess" when advising someone on this sort of thing. In the appliance section people often call cookers ovens & vice versa & the op was rather short on info e.g. neighbours quals, experience etc., rating of appliance nor anything else.

I couldn't agree more......the trouble is, almost everything is available on the inter web if you can be bothered to look for it (which I'm not). Unfortunately, expertise is the one missing ingredient.
I'm not advising what to do, just answering the original question......and we can't stop people from bashing on anyway!
John :)

You are right John, but personally I prefer not to answer the question if I feel that it might make them think they are on the right track when they could be heading for the buffers.:)

Is this an all electric oven, a gas oven that just needs a power supply or a combi oven [gas/electric]?

Four hob, oven and grill I think.....something tells me its one of the slimmer ones. Definitely requires hard wiring.
John :)
