Electric cooker installation

Hello, I want to install a new Smeg electric cooker in a house in France. The supply is rated at 30A, but the continental spec cookers I am looking at (Smeg) give in their blurb only a nominal power rating of around 10.5kW. That would seem to indicate that a 45A supply is required.

I'm a bit confused as a similar UK spec Smeg cooker rated at 10.5kW requires only a 30A supply according to Smeg.

Is it possible that your house is wired for 3-phase power?

Many European cooking appliances are connected with 400V 3-phase supplies.

There are 3 lives, typically rated at 16Amps each.
a neutral
and an earth.

Sometimes, it's hardwired, sometimes it uses a special plug.

If your house really only has a 30Amp single phase supply, you will need to get in touch with EDF (Electricité de France) to see about getting upgraded. There's no way you can use an electric cooker otherwise.

You might need to get in touch with a local registered French electrician for advice.
