Hi,

Just bought a fire place and when plugging it, the light of the electric fire do work – but not the heating as it keep blowing the fuse inside the plug.

Is the reason of this: my electric installation who cannot take the power use by the electric component of the heating from the electric fire?

What would be the remedial? I guess I would need an electrician over to sort out plug that can take that electric fire and at the same time new consumer unit?

Thanks

Is this a brand new heater, or was it used?
What is the rating of the heater in KW? Probably written on the label on the top.
What size fuse in the plug is blowing?

Why would you think you need a new consumer unit if an electric fire keeps blowing the fuse in the plug?

Sounds to me like the fire is faulty if it's blowing the fuse in the plug. It won't be your electrical installation that's at fault.

I suspect he means that he is planning to get an electrician to install a new consumer unit (not too bad an idea) and therefore could look at the heater/plug/fuse problem at the same time.

Kind Regards, John

The wonderful UK plug contains a fuse. Various ratings of fuse can be used. It should be a fuse appropriate to the appliance and its cable. It is intended to blow in the event of a fault or an overload.

Perhaps you have an inappropriate fuse, perhaps you have a faulty appliance.

We don't know what fuse your plug contains.
