Hello

Our gate lock recently stopped working.

You put the correct code in, keypad indicates it is attempting to release the lock but the electric release lock in the pictures attached doesn’t release. Cables seems to be secured properly. I can try and have it replaced but before I do - is there a way to diagnose if the problem is with the release lock or with another component in the system, say the keypad ?

Also, if I do want to have it replaced, mine is quite old, from 2016. Will this for example work with it ?

Thanks

Yes - use test equipment to determine if voltage is being applied to the lock. If it is then the lock is broken. If not then the problem is elsewhere.

Thanks.

It will open once every many many tries. I guess voltage is either yes or no. Does this suggest the problem is more likely to be with the release lock

Also, will this simple tester do or do I need something more advanced please ?

The lock also looks to be full of muck - a clean wouldn't hurt.
If I remember correctly, there is a solenoid that pulls a pin, and that allows the catch to release.
Any stickiness in the mechanism could lead to inconsistent operation.

The WD40 was applied on the lock itself, not on the coils. Is that not OK either ?

It normally runs down into the coil ….had it loads of times when either council joiner or tenants put wd40 on lock release as door not locking ! Just get another bell systems release they are only cheap …

Those are potentially dangerous. Also they can only detect the presence of a live. For the lock to operate it needs live and neutral.
You need a two probe tester. You can get a multimeter from many places for a tenner.
