We just had gas surveyor round looking to install gas in a one bedroom ground floor flat. There is gas to the basement and first floor. Even though there are 2 gas meters in the cellar under the pavement, he insists on digging across the road to install a 3rd meter as there is no existing 'tee' in the pipework before the meters. Anyway, I suspect the quote will mean that it will take over 100 years to save money with gas heating. :(

I was going to have a combination gas boiler but now I am looking at electric alternatives.

I have a small roof space under a 30° slate lean-to roof about 1.5m wide and 4m long (probably rising to about 0.8m high). The ceiling is down, so I have good access. Would the roof space be enough for a vented cylinder header tank to feed a power shower? If I can't fit in a 50 gallon tank, can I have two 25 gallon tanks?

The (more expensive) alternative, is an unvented cylinder.

The original intention was to mount the combination boiler on the wall over a washing machine in a cupboard. Could I wall-mount a 40 gallon vented cylinder instead and still have space under for a washing machine? I have brick walls on two sides and the ceiling height is just over 2.1m.

The boiler size calculator suggested 2.9kW heating. The obvious choices are electric panel heaters and storage heaters. I was also wondering about a split air-to-air heat pump (e.g. Amcor HW12EZ). Air conditioning in a west-facing living room on the south coast is a boon.
