Hi , I have recently moved house and have found my electric shower is powered by what can only be described as an electric oven switch about 10" off the floor behind the toilet ! Obviously im no electrician but is this

1. safe
2. illegal
3. should the shower not be used

cheers.

Is the toilet in a seperate room to the main bathroom? (where the shower is). If so then it may be ok. If the switch is in the same room as the shower then chances are it is not ok. Can you take some photos and post them on here? failing that any more information would be helpful.

Not really ideal, but I suppose if its Z3, its not too bad, though difficult to find when the shower starts pumping out smoke, also z3 or not it might not be suitable for the conditions in the location it is installed if you have young males in the house...

To check its on its own circuit (as it should be) switch off circuits until the red light goes out, and then verify that nothing else has gone off

That toilet waste doesn't look right to me, looks like air ducting tbh  , but you'll have to ask in the plumbing forum for that

Zone 3, bathrooms are in zones

If the red light isn't on... if you are sure the switch actually controls something, then chances are that its a failed neon

And I'd look into that pipe (not litterally), I guess it could pose a heath risk of some sort (presumebly if it splits and spills **** on the floor), or it bubbles up round the sides if its not going properly. But this is well outside my area of knowledge

I'm no plumber but that pipe looks like one of these

I would think you would be better off getting the switch moved to either outside the bathroom, or have a ceiling mounted pull switch fitted instead.

Cheers fellas what sort of money would be reasonable to pay to get it wired into a pull cord starting from scratch because the chances are the previous owner has not wired it to its own circuit .

 What circuit has he put it on then? A periodic inspection of your house might be worth having done tbh, to find any nasties...

and trust you, Secure  (pssst. speak to Mr. Ban, he might lend you (for a modest fee) his login for sites that specialise in that kinda stuff... thats as long as he hasn't let it lapse because toffee has jacked in modeling for it or something  ) *hides from toffee  *

Isn't this meant to be a family safe forum
