I have a really old thorn apollo boiler. It must be 25 yrs old or so and it been tripping the consumer unit intermittintly over the last week or so. We thought it might be the intergrated timer on the boiler (as it seemed to trip at the same time everyday..see below),so we bought a new one and it still trips..the boiler is usually fired up/on between the hours of 7am-8am and about 6.30pm to 8.30pm everyday. The boiler seems to trip the fuse box at 8.10am and about 12.00am every day?? It's becoming a mystery and pain as we can't find out what is wrong with it? The other thing is that when it trips the consumer unit you have to turn the isolating switch for the boiler off before the cu will let you put the main switch back on..if you try to turn the isolating switch back on immediatly after, it trips the cu again..but if you leave it say 10 mins or so you can turn the isolating switch back on no prob !

Is this a leakage prob? there is not many electrics to this boiler as it is quite old...it normally doesnt trip when the boiler is fired up as i have mentioned..just when it is off

I don't know much about plumbing or electrics so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Is this an open flue or fan flue Apollo?

What trip is going, mcb or rcd?

If fan flue could be fan.

Other than that I would look at the pump first, as this is controlled very basically from the boiler, via a pump over run stat.
