Hi Everyone,

What would be my best way of joining 3 2.5 cables outside? I'm running a cable from my outside light round to another light at the side of my house, but I need to run another cable down the wall, under some concrete to lights on piers.

In the main, epoxy resin joints are so expensive, not worth jointing, cheaper to run two independent cables, or use the lights to make the joint in. Seem to remember being told DIY not allowed in Ireland?

Thanks for reply. Thinking wago connecters and a wago outdoor junction box. I'll use a resin filled junction box underground.

In the main, it is common sense, in the UK one should really only use class II items outdoors, due to risk with loss of PEN, but I don't know how it is done in Ireland.

We kinda do things the same as yourselves

Perfect bud thanks. Wasn't sure what box to use

You may want to use CTS glands/stuffing glands.

Avoid having cables enter the top of the box - moisture could easily enter.

It's twin and earth cable. Won't be any cable coming in the top, both sides and bottom

I know you're thinking 'Why can't Murdoch tell us why T+E is totally unsuitable for exterior work?', but T+E outside can eventually degrade due to UV stuff and all that.

Black flex, as a minimum, is the preferred cable.

What gets me is that approved outdoor junction boxes and even alarm bell boxes eventually degrade too...

It'll be inside conduit! Cable won't be exposed

Still isn’t suitable for outside installation, especially under concrete.

But heyho what do I know?

I’ve earned a lot of money fault finding rough and poor installations over the years.
