...Yahoo Mail users have been hit by service problems and outages in recent days caused by an undersea cable being cut.
The cable was accidentally cut during routine maintenance work leaving UK and US users unable to access their accounts and others facing slow page loading times. The worst affected regions appear to be eastern US and western Europe.
Sky and BT customers were also affected, as both use Yahoo to provide email services to their users.

"We are aware that Yahoo Mail is slow or inaccessible for some of our users. The issues were a result of an underwater fibre cable cut, caused by a third party while fixing a separate cable,” the firm said on its status page.

"The engineering team has rerouted email traffic to mitigate accessibility issues. A cable repair ship has been mobilised and will be at the site this weekend.” ...

Only had one day of problems with Sky emails. There was a notice on the Sky website saying that Yahoo were experiencing problems, but it would be fixed as soon as possible. ;) ;)

I thought they all used satellites these days.

ive had problems for the past 3 days over this,on my lappy and the wifes phone/tablet.
kept on getting incorrect password, this was through windows live mail.
logged in to bt and then(yet again)had to change password, managed to get into the emails in bt itself but still nothing coming down.

then my boy told me to install mozilla thunderbolt, another email client, set up the account and the emails started to come down without any problems,so decided to send a test email from it to my account and lo and behold windows live came back to life  all 4000 odd

Which is where I arrived after this recent problem struck last week.
For those of us not 'at it ' all the time, there is the possibility of losing one's emails when experimenting with different clients.
Strange thing utilising web mail via the browser worked ok, slow at times.
'Win' Live Mail', 'Outlook 2007', 'Thunderbird' all gave problems on and off for the last week , I guess due to the severed cable problem.

BT -Yahoo mail has failed this morning 26 Nov 2014. One can log on to be told mails and lists of mails cannot be accessed.

I doubt that loss of a single fibre could cause this much loss of service.
