I recently bought a new TV from Empire Direct's new store in Doncaster. The store opened in November, I thought nothing of trusting them, they are a big name on the web, and clearly must have clout to open a new store. However, they went into administration yesterday.

I have my TV, but I was given a free 5 year warranty with the deal.

Is the warranty worth anything now?

If my TV goes faulty within a year, do I go direct to the manufacturers?

I should have known not to trust that shop, in the last 10 years its had about 20 different companies occupying it. I aint joking.

Depends who is underwriting the warranty. If it is with a separate insurance company , then you will be ok. However if it is an Empire Direct warranty I'm afraid you will be forking out for any repairs.

If its any consolation I never thought Empire would go to the wall. :(

I would also suggest, anyone buying anything of value, pay with a credit card, not a debit card.
In case the company you are dealing with goes bust, at least you will be covered.
