escort 1.6 si 1996 running problems help!

Hello,



I have a N Reg Ford Escort 1.6 si - Problem - Car splutters/judders and looses power. I am unable to accelerate and need to floor the accelerator/clutch and rev the engine to allow me to carry on with the journey. This is an intermittent problem and does not occur all the time (lately getting worse though). I have replaced the spark plugs/petrol filter/petrol tank and cat. But still the same problem.



Any help or suggestions?

I would start at the "Air Intake",look for sticking flaps etc. also check any vacuum lines for splits etc.The problem could be with the "Mass airflow" or the "Throttle position sensor".Maybe a readout is the best bet.

been thinking about a read out, because car doesnt do the problem all the time would it still be picked up? getting sick of throwing money into car and getting now were.

In addition to stored faults they should be able to give running values on the MAF and various other sensors but ask before taking it in.

problem could be in relay box which controls eletric abig black plastic box with lots of wires in/out
