I've got a 1999 1.8D Escort Van. Generally driving it is all OK, but when driving over a pothole or raised manhole cover with the N/S wheel I get a 'clunk'.
I've jacked it up and had a good waggle of the wheel and suspension arms, but can't find any play (maybe a little in the rack but that's all).
I've come to the conclusion that it might be the shock, but don't know if there's an easy way to prove this. Obviously once it's jacked up the spring keeps it extended so there's not a lot to waggle. If I've got to take it off to check it I might as well replace it anyway (£30 plus labour), but I was trying to avoid wasting my time and money.
Any advice? Thanks.
