Hi,

We've inherited a Eurosec CP8L system (installed 2003) that has been in absolutely great working order.

However, our magnetic door sensor failed and the battery in the main alarm panel needs replacing. Our local installer charged us £150 to come out to look at the magnetic door contact and took the battery out of the panel and then couldn't find a replacement. So the alarm is currently powered up with no battery backup to the panel - so every time the power goes off the bell box sounds from its own internal battery.

The installer wanted a further £180 to come back out to put a replacement battery in and swap the magnetic contact!!! A new alarm would have been cheaper after all of this but the Eurosec has been simple but reliable so we intend to continue with it.

I've bought a new magnetic contact switch and battery (for less than £20). I know the engineer code for the panel. Would the following steps work to replace the magnetic switch and connect a new battery to the panel:

1) If I disable the bell tamper ring mode first will this stop the external bell box sounding if I power down the alarm (in the absence of there being a battery in the main panel)

2) I was then planning on powering down the panel from the mains from the fuse box

3) Fit new magnetic contact switch

4) Open panel and install new battery

5) Close panel and power back on at the mains

6) Turn back on bell tamper ring mode

Not sure if I needed to do something to enter "installer mode" at the beginning of all this to turn off the tamper protection but I'm not sure how to do this and whether an installer code is required instead of the engineer code. I don't have an installer code.

Start using alarm again as normal - hopefully!!

Thanks in advance

He’s not an installer ….a 2.8/ 3.2 ah battery will fit in this panel …..I can’t believe he didn’t have one …there are 3 main common battery sizes which will cover most alarm panels ……2.1, 2.8 , 7.0 ah batteries ( some variations in ah size ) but 3 physical sizes

Open box , tamper activates ( internal sounder ) turn off with code ….check voltage at battery leads ( 13.80 ) approx ….fit battery put lid back on , reset panel , drop mains to make sure battery kicks in , turn back on mains , reset panel ….done

Thanks Sparkymarka. I bought the exact same battery as the original so I'm happy it should be the correct one.

When should I swap the magnetic contact on our front door in this process? I guess I don't want to do it with the battery in place or the mains on, I don't want to blow a fuse.

Thanks again

No voltage on door contact wiring so don't have to worry about blowing any fuses
