Nightmare job.

I was best man for my brothers wedding 20 years ago,
I made sure he, myself, and a carefully selected few, were out of the pub in time for the church. No problems there at all.
Speech went ok.
Shagg*d the chief bridesmaid. (which resulted in me being with her for two years or so  ).
All went to plan.

The trouble is.....

I've been asked to do it again......
Call me grumpy......... but f*ck me i'm too old now.

Organising stag nights and phoning people about mad things.
I could REALLY do without it.

Anyone been a best man.......???????????

you only really need to get Bridegroom there on time - sober. Other tasks can be delegated

Tony

Much more too it than that Tony......... the speech is the worse bit, but there's so much more.
Ive been there.

i was best man for a good mate after his first choice refused.

his football team organised the stag day/night, so that was easy. on the day i had him in the bar at 11am and we got good and drunk before the event, he even ****ed up his vows as a result.

i spent a good fortnight on the speech but ended up doing the last draft in the boozer the night before. my speech was pretty good, his was ****ing awful.

at the time i couldn't believe anyone would pass up the best mans job but after doing it i doubt i would do it again.

She's probably married herself now, so that will be awkward...

Did the job twice..... once for my ex brother-in-law, I was only 18 at the time, he couldn't choose between all of his footy mates, so he chose me!!! Absolutely bricked it, my sister was worried to death that I would make a complete hash of it, but it went ok ( I think ), I remember 40 or so of his mates getting up and cheering, so I was happy.

The second one was for someone I worked with, he didn't socialise much, and didn't have any close friends, but was a guy with a cool sense of humour. Much more relaxed for that one, and a lot funnier. I was in my mid twenties for that. It went well.

I would say, dependent on your age, it can be fun, also, dependent on how much lead time you've got, arranging a stag day/weekend/week is easy now, loads of web pages dedicated to this. Whether you can get everyone to pay for this on time, and also get the numbers to go, is another thing !!! The formalities for the day can easily be researched on the 'net, to hone your best man duties to perfection :)
