Can anyone advise me of a password breaking utility that I can get.
I have searched & googled but the one's I can find are usually wanting ~$100 and I only need it for one spreadsheet.
There must be a freeware/shareware one out there somewhere

Who set the password in the first place?

How does anyone know that you have permission to open the spreadsheet?

Sorry, but passwords are set to prevent unauthorised people accessing programs.

I know it is no help but you don't give a lot of details as a reason to be told how to do it.

The password was set by an ex colleague who no longer works with us, and he can't remember what it is.

I do have permission, but all of the above is moot, all I asked was do you know of any software...

I could shell out $100 dollars, but I could re-write the spreadsheet in that sort of time frame

I use Office Password Recovery, which works, but is more useful if you know more about the password (approx length, were special characters used etc).

It's a retail version but, if your sheet is not sensitive, you could mail it to me and i'll give it a blast. Not always the quickest of tools tho.

There are links to free password recovery software on the website I posted in the thread Excel Templates etc in this section of the forum, if that's any use to you?
