Hello all

Is there any way of exchanging an old-style night latch door lock on a wooden door to a Euro lock?

Reason being I'd like to have the lock keyed-alike with another, but the other door is a Euro lock.

Just wondered if this is possible?

Would say no as the euro will only operate a multipoint lock

It is possible, but, is this for the front door of a house? With very few expensive exceptions, cylinder locks do not meet the British Standard for thief-resistant locks, so will not meet the requirements of your home insurance company.

Yale, Banham, and I think possibly ERA as well, offer a front door pack containing a cylinder nightlatch and a cylinder mortice lock, where both operate off the same key. You might have to order it from a proper locksmith.

Thanks for the advice gents, I'll look into it. But was always kind of thinking what God said would be the case.

Cheers

It would depend on the keyway and type of cylinders that you wist to use. ie if your old night latch were using a standard 5 pin yale keyway and your euro cylinder was using the same 5 pin keyway they could work under the same key.
Best advice is to ask your local locksmith, tell them what want to achieve and ask for suggestions.

Just reread "euro will only operate a multipoint lock" euro profile cylinders operate many types of lock: Garage doors, padlocks, gates, sashlocks, rim cylinders etc, etc.

you need a euro sash lock case and a barrel to suit thickness of door plus handles it nwould probably be a 40 40 barrel

Blimey so many experts...............

Get a pair of cylinders made up to suit, and passing.

1 x Yale Type (1109)
1 x Euro Key/Key 35/35

DC your the only one making any sence here.

Also you could have the cylinders restricted to enable secure key duplication.
The only thing to worry about is to make sure the cylinder for the mortise lock is the same make to ensure insurance compatability, although most will accept " as good as" check with your insurers if insured.
