Hi I just had my 2011 VW Polo in the garage for a service and MOT . Since I got it back I can smell fumes coming out of the air vents but only when I reverse. Any idea what it could be ? I looked under the car to see if the exhaust was damaged but it seems ok .

Thanks

I can't see the connection to make the fumes. But take it back and get it checked.

Are you sure it's exhaust fumes? It could be that they've dripped a little oil on to the exhaust manifold and you're smelling it burning off as it heats up. Or, a crank-case vent hose left disconnected etc.

As said above, take it back.

Some cars do have a badly positioned sump drain plug or oil filter and you can’t stop oil draining on the exhaust when servicing them. Alternatively they could have missed the oil filler hole when refilling with oil and got some over the engine. Just check that they’ve put the filler cap back on too!
