I'm looking to install a video doorbell in replacement of a standard push button/backlit one. The existing externa transformer/chime unit is only 6VAC so its not suitable, so I was going to swap it for a byron 776 (8v 1amp) combo unit instead. The doorbell can work in the range of 8-24VAC / 5-40VA.
I popped open the externa units cover to find its currently wired (upside down) to the button using what appears to be a 6 core solid telephone extension, with a pair bonded to each terminal and the last pair tucked out the way. I've not seen one wired like this before! I measured the core with a caliper and it appears to be around 0.36mm in diameter, the total wire length i'm not 100% sure of as its in the wall but shouldn't be more than 3 metres.
Would it be safe to install the byron 776 using this same cable in pairs to the video doorbell?
