Since early December, we've heard frequent banging clattering, hammering and drilling from next door, with a supposed builder working there, on an otherwise empty property, a three bed semi. The work has continued such a very long time, I do have to wonder what could possibly take this long? Most properties, even a full revamp, can be done in a few weeks, but this has gone on for 9 whole months. Question is, do we need an exorcist to get rid of the builder, who seems to be so very attached to the place?

Speak to them ?

Do we need to sit around a table, holding hands, with a candle in the middle?

There have been plumbers, electricians, heating engineers, carpet fitters, all in and out in reasonably quick time, job done, but this builder appears almost daily still.

Does he bring his family to work with him?

We had a house up the road being refurbed for well over a year , I guess they either had cash flow problems, builders being deported or work re done as it was shoddy.

It cannot be any of those things, the same person working here constantly, for all of that time. Seems to be a joiner/builder, judging by the noises..

Some people treat a refurb as a hobby more than an investment. Do they work late into the evenings?

It's not the owner, doing the work - it's obviously someone self-employed. They work days usually, including weekends, and sometimes evenings.
