We are looking for a ceiling light for a new extension. Like this one http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-alium-ceiling-light/p231893482
but would need to extend it to 4-5m as the apex of the ceiling is high up. This light is 4.1kg and comes with a cable to support the weight and one to provide the power.
I could just buy longer versions of each but was hoping to find something with a single cable to do both jobs. Not sure if it exists or if I'm just not using the right name in searches?

5kg is the limit to hang on any flex of 1mm csa or larger

So I think you will strugglle to find similar lights of that weight without a chain or suspension wire

You could just use 3mm catenary wire to replace the support cable, and then as in one of the pictures on the website, wrap the flex around the support, if you do it neatly it might not look too bad

I'd go for big sweeping loops around it, rather than small tight ones

I have found to hold 5 kg and also wire in near impossible, and the answer is to plug them in as a pre-wired assembly

in spite of the hook the MC11E is still only rated at 5 kg as is the standard PCR2000 plug in ceiling rose.

In the main I thread the flex through the jack chain even if cable is of the correct rating.

You can get suspension cable with a steel wire core, but whether you could successfully terminate it at each end to use the core to take the load I don't know.

But that light is under the maximum for 1mm²+ flex anyway.
